Step 19: It is Finally Closing Day!

At this point, you will be notified of the closing details with a confirmation email showing the date, time, and location prior to closing.

 

While you may plan to schedule movers on the same day as closing, it is not recommended. If you are moving on the day of closing, please be sure to give yourself enough time to complete the closing before you need to meet your movers.

 

A few important reminders for closing:

  1. Bring your photo ID with you (ideally a driver’s license or passport) This is needed so that the title company can notarize your signatures

  2. Bring your checkbook

  3. Closing takes approximately one hour

  4. The following people will attend the closing; the title company officer, your Realtor, and your lender. The sellers do not attend the closing.  They have pre-signed all of the documents needed for closing.

  5. Even if your spouse is not on the loan, your spouse must sign documents at closing pertaining to the deed.

 

At the very end of the closing, you will receive copies of all documents that were signed.  In this packet, you will receive a copy of the Buyer’s Statement.  You will need to keep this for your taxes next year.

 

Last, but not least, you’ll get your keys and can now officially move in! Congratulations new homeowner!
