Step 15: Utilities

This is an important step that can be overlooked. Call approximately 7-10 days prior to closing to transfer billing to your name as of the closing date. When it comes to gas, water, and electricity, you do not want to have these shut off these utilities (there could be reconnection fees). If the utility company advises you that the sellers have not made the call to transfer services out of their name, please let us know.  We will follow up with the listing agent to be sure that it is taken care of on their end.  You’ll also want to call your TV/internet provider, as well.

If you are buying in a condo building, contact the HOA / or condo representation to advise them that you are the new owner.
